About

Getting You Home On Friday was created by Mike Jones over a long...very long period of time. Some works dated from the late 80's while others in the late 2010's. His love of comedy classics such as "The Two Ronnies", "The Goodies", and "Spike Milligan" helped influence the wide range of comedy from classical slapstick and punny little numbers, witty and subtle humour, as well as a sprinkling of dark humour.

His life was often filled with laughter, but the laughter died all too soon when Death visited his door. He was an uninvited guest but he was there to a job and he did it quickly. Despite death, Mike’s work and memories live on in family, friends, his art, music (The Slow Road South) and now his Radio plays.

His daughter discovered the wide selection of works, plans and ideas, drafts and artworks for the project and took it upon herself to bring it to fruition. Editing, organising, casting and recording 109 of his episodes and skits (and writing one of her own), alongside Bass Hathaway and a cast of talented Voice Actors including Nate Gothard, Linda Chong, Thomas Taufan, Hester Van Der Vyver and Cheng. The core team worked together to bring to life the words of old, finding humour and wit in quick words and subtle and not so subtle puns.

All the works have tried to remain as true to Mike's sensibilities and the times in which he wrote them. Though some modern terminology, humour and adjustments to the time were made when it deemed truly appropriate in respect to today's society and what he would have wanted. Some works were also very early drafts, requiring some dramaturgy and a few sentences here and there to bring them to completion.

We hope you enjoy his works and the hard efforts of his family and the friends they found in the amazing cast and crew.

I'll leave you with one of his favourite little jokes:

What's the difference between a duck?

Two legs both the same.
